I wanted to tell a story about what happens after a career criminal pulls off that one last big score and then disappears into retirement. I wanted it to be a science fiction story about the lengths you might go to keep yourself alive, even prospering, in a world divided between haves and have-nots. I wanted to work with Wendell Cavalcanti.
BROKEN BLVD is the book we came up with, Wendell and I, and we put the first sixteen pages together. This was 5 years ago, but the story’s aged okay.
It’s an incomplete story, and there’s a conceit, hidden throughout and finally revealed on the last page, that would’ve opened up the playground and recalibrated the narrative.
I’ve been noodling with these concepts, and as I often do, I’ll probably salvage the parts that worked and use them to build something new, but until then, you can click HERE to read a free comic.
